Paediatric Physiotherapy

The right prescription of assistive technology can make the difference between surviving in an environment and thriving.

Gross Motor Development

Children with chronic conditions and disability will require ongoing therapy as they grow and develop. As they get older, there is an increased demand on their cognitive load and physical skills. Our team is experienced in breaking down physical skills into easy to learn steps for children who struggle to keep up with their peers. We can provide strategies to help a child adapt to the demands of a school environment and ensure that precautions are undertaken to reduce the risk of deformity during growth spurts.

Assistive Technology

The task of finding the right piece of equipment that will actually help you function and works with the family, carers and the environment can be a trying process. There are many aspects to consider when scripting equipment. At Aderet we have many years of experience in prescribing equipment for clients with complex disabilities and high needs. We are aware that there is a broad range of factors to consider in finding the right piece of equipment. With the NDIS now acting as the main funding body for equipment, we have prioritised understanding the best way to gain funding for equipment and justify why a piece of equipment is best suited to an individual.

The equipment that our clinicians are skilled to prescribe are as followed:

  • Walkers, Walking frames
  • Standing Frames
  • Sleep Systems, 24 hr positioning systems.
  • Specialised bicycles and tricycles
  • Indoor seating
  • Manual Wheelchairs.
  • Powered wheelchairs
  • Sit to stand powered wheelchairs.

Please note, we do not prescribe toilet chairs, shower chairs, beds, vehicle modifications, home modifications.

Transition to adulthood

Therapy is normally concentrated to a child's growing years and disappears the minute they reach adulthood. However, in cases of ongoing condition, it is beneficial to have access to professional advice to assist with transition away from school into the working world and adulthood. Our team believes in assisting young adults with that change from being a dependent into an adult. We strive to enable our clients to be their own advocate and capable of making their own decisions about their care. We work to problem solve their environment so they can operate as a functional member of the community.
