AQUATIC PHYSIOTHERAPY

Aquatic Physiotherapy is a fun, effective way to learn gross motor skills. Our team is specially trained to ensure that high quality therapy intervention can be provided in the water. Recent evidence has demonstrated that skill acquisition within the water environment has excellent transferrability onto functional skills across everyday life.

The water is fun!! Kids love to splash and play within the water environment. They can take risks and perform skills that are usually not possible on land. It is also an age appropriate activity that all children access at some point. Our therapists also teach your child how to be safe in the water and teach your child to use the skills they have available to ensure they can safely enter/exit and move around the water environment.

The hydrostatic properties of water provide additional sensory feedback, anti-gravity powers and pain reduction. This means that it is an ideal place to learn new skills particularly for individuals who have sensory processing challenges, chronic pain or are very weak. The warm water also has the ability to reduce tone and spasticity which can assist children with complex movement to gain strength and functional skills despite tonal challenges.
